Ald Triplett & Father celebrate after election results come in. March 2007.

Today, I remember  my father, Johnnie  “Big John” Triplett, who passed away December 18, 2007.  My father played a very pivotal role in my first campaign for elected office back in 2007. Being a union organizer, he understood the importance of public service and shared my passion and zest for this great city and its great people. During the cold, brutal months of my aldermanic campaign, it was he who walked with me door to door in the ice and snow to speak to 6th Ward voters. Never once did he complain or grow weary during the highs and lows of  a tense campaign. My Dad was always upbeat, focused and committed to helping out in any way.

The memory and sacrifice  of my father will never be forgotten.

I think of him daily; and am reminded of the morning of my swearing In ceremony at the Board of Aldermen. when he said, “It’s all up to you now, Kacie.”

He meant that as my father, he did all he could do to see me victorious. That now, everything was up to me. In retrospect, I know that he meant more than just me being victorious in my election; but also being victorious in life, by being a responsible and productive adult; making it my responsibility to contribute something to this world.

 I am grateful that God blessed me with a father who understood and supported my mission to serve this great city in the best way I know, through public service.  It is my intention to keep up the fight, keep up the faith and work to make our City be the best it can be. What a blessing to have had a father; and an even greater blessing to know that he is resting in eternal peace.

For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.
