Trash collection would no longer occur during inappropriate hours
This morning, I introduced Board Bill 220, “Stop the Racket” legislation, which the Streets’ Committee approved unanimously. The next step, is the bill being sent to the full legislative body, for approval. The “Stop the Racket” board bill will amend the existing law regarding refuse collection in the City.
What’s the big deal with collecting trash, you may ask?
While trash collection may appear as a routine issue, it has become an increasingly major concern for many city residents. They are being awakened at midnight, or very early in the morning to the sound of trash trucks barreling through their alley. Ensuring that city residents enjoy a maximum quality of life is important. The “Stop the Racket” legislation will simply ensure that St. Louis remains a great place to live, work, play — and sleep!

Fantastic work! Thank you very much. It may seem trivial, but these trucks lift and drop entire metal dumpsters which make incredible amunts of noise right outside folks windows. My window is nowhere near a dumpster, but I realize that if people can’t get regular sleep they are going to move out, and others will not move in. This issue DIRECTLY affects the health of the downtown residential market, and thus downtown in general.
Thank you so much for your efforts.

How about a law against barking dogs, during the day? Or disrespectful, out-of-control, unsupervised children who run around the street at all hours of the day and night? Oh, how about their parents, who talk and shout loudly while drinking copious amounts of beer on the lawn, the street, their cars (which are often blaring loud, thumping “music”), again, at all hours of the night? What about the so-called “boomcar” ordinance? I’m sorry, trash pickup occurs in most neighborhoods twice a week. For three minutes, you are indeed confronted by noise. But after that, nada. A dozen or more children making a racket for hours on end, especially during the summer, now that’s a nuisance. And that doesn’t even include the periods when the “adults’ emerge from the house, bringing the beer and the party outside. Trash and beer cans all over the street are the result the next morning. I swear, it feels sometimes that these idiots are trying to drive out my other (good) neighbors and my wife and I. How does one legislate against a bunch of obnoxious, uncouthe, ignorant, disrespectful jerks?
How about excessive noise ordinance with “teeth”! I don’t need to hear anyone’s music 50 feet away much less FEEL IT! Passing legislation is one thing… if its not enforced, its worthless.
Properly, the blog post is definitely the best on this worthwhile topic. I go along with your conclusions and candesperately look forward to your upcoming updates.
