I recently coordinated a safety meeting at the Eden Lofts located on the perimeter of the Lafayette Square neighborhood. This is a relatively new loft building and many of the residents are new to city life and city living. It is important that residents are best informed and educated on how to be aware of their surroundings, and what city agencies and resources are available to make city living the best and safest it can be.

My office along with the 6th Ward Problem Property coordinator and 6th Ward Neighborhood Stabilization Officer have conducted several of these meetings; and have a “system” pretty much down pat. We invite local community police officers to the meetings to provide neighborhood crime reports and also special tips on organizing your block or apartment building into a neighborhood watch program.
